Walt Disney, his brother Roy Disney, and Ub Iwerks his associate from Laugh O Grams moved to Hollywood and created their own studio that would eventually be called Walt Disney Studios. For some time Disney was creating normal animated short films with some success but eventually he started revolutionizing the industry. He made one of the first animated films with synchronized sound, Steamboat Willie which was a major success and eventually led to him creating many other films using synchronized sound that he called the Silly Symphony's . But later they made an even more revolutionary film The Flowers and the Trees which was not only the very first animated film in color but the first to win an Oscar.

He now faced what he was sure was his next step, making a full feature length animated film. The film would be Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Although it was a long and grueling process considering the animators at Disney had never produced anything anywhere close to as long as this, it led to Snow White being one of the greatest successes of it's time. The film brought in $1.499 million even though it was released during the great depression. Obviously after the success of his first movie, Disney was very compelled to make more. He next released Pinocchio, then Fantasia, and many more, each surpassing its predecessors in quality.
