The Camera- White Balance

What is White Balance?

White Balance is the camera's way to adjust to different temperatures of light so an image will appear as you see it with your eyes which automatically adjusts. It does this by adding a specific amount of the opposite color to make it reach the equilibrium of white light.

How is color temperature measured?

Color temperature despite being completely reliant on color is measured through Kelvin which is a unit of heat. The higher the Kelvin the closer the light is too bright orange and the lower kelvin is closer to dark blue.

Why should a photographer know how to change the white balance in their camera?

It is important for a photographer to know how to change their white balance because with all of the factors that affect the natural temperature of light it may be necessary to change the white balance if you want the image to appear crisp and accurate. It is also possible to take creative liberty and use white balance to alter an image by tinting the temperature of light.
